里芋のステーキと里芋とイカの煮物(Taro Steak and Stewed and Simmered Taros with Squid)

里芋が安売りしていたので今夜は里芋尽くしの夕食☆するめいかはまだまだ旬で安く美味しく頂けるので里芋と一緒に煮物にしてみました。お皿に盛る前に微妙な量残っていたキャベツを加えましたが、里芋とイカの相性は抜群ですよね。美味しく頂きました。でも粘々系がダメな嫁さんはちょっと苦戦。難しいかなとは思っていたのですが、煮物にすると粘々感もなくなると思っていたのでちょっと残念。

里芋のステーキは薄切りにしたものに塩胡椒で下味をつけ、小麦粉を振り、ガーリックオイルでこんがり焼きあげただけです。残り物の水菜を添えて頂きました。ガーリックオイルの残りがほとんどなかったのでニンニクのスライスも少々加えましたが十分メインとしてご飯が進む料理でしたよ♪

お味噌汁はいつも通りの残り物。冷凍庫に眠っていた油揚げと煮物に入れきらなかったキャベツを具にしました。お味噌汁って本当に助かりますよね。特に我が家の冷蔵庫は野菜室が小さいので夏はどうしても野菜を使い切るのに悩むので。

I bought some taros for a decent price, so I decided to make two dishes with them. The first is stewed and simmered taros with a squid. Both taros and squid are in season now, so it is perfect time to enjoy them! After getting rid of the cartilage and intestines from the squid, wash it well, and slice its body into 1cm pieces. Put them into a pot, and add a little bit of the sauce mixture (finely sliced ginger, soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar and Japanese soup stock), and cook the squid until its done. Remove the squid from the pot, and add taros into it and let the sauce boil. Once it boils, place an internal lid (if you dont have one, you can make your own by punching big holes into aluminum foil), and let it cook in medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes. Once taros are cooked, add the squid, mix them carefully, and the serve them in a small bowl. I also added some cabbage at the end, but some beans go well too.

My second dish was taro steak, but this was a lot easier. I cut them into 1/4 inch slices, sprinkled some salt and pepper, lightly covered them with flower, and then cooked them in garlic oil. I also added some garlic slices because I ran out of garlic oil. It was easy and tasty. Taros are a bit sticky, so some people may not like them, but they are healthy and this is the best time in Japan to enjoy them! All in all, no a bad supper, I think.
